BLAIR ATHOL DISTILLERY HISTORY
Originally called Aldour distillery (after the Alt dour or burn of the otter) back in 1798, its name is changed to Blair Athol distillery after a village nearby in 1826. In the late 1800’s its capacity is increased, but in the 1930’s it had to endure hard times and closed down. Rebuilt and reopened in 1949 by Perth blender Arthur Bell & Sons, it has been in production ever since. In 1987 Blair Athol opens its visitor centre, which attracts great numbers of visitors in the following years. Now the distillery is part of the Diageo portfolio.
Diageo has released Blair Athol 12 years old only as part of the Flora & Fauna range. Other expressions of this fine single malt whisky are quite rare and can be found in independent bottlings.
